A heritage refurbishment project coupled with the challenge of continuous occupation and use.  A sensitive approach and constant stakeholder engagement ensured business continuity as well as on-time and on-budget completion.

Key Facts

Project Name: Internal Refurbishment Programme to Student Accommodation and Seminar Rooms

Project Client: The Courtauld Institute of Art

Value of Contract: £200,000.00

Contract Date / Period: September 2017 – 16 weeks

With a reputation built on catering to specialist requirements, Saltash was invited to undertake internal refurbishment work to student accommodation and seminar rooms at the Courtauld Institute of Art’s historic Somerset House.

A prestigious building that was due to be continually occupied and heavily used during the project, work to Somerset House required extensive business continuity and Health and Safety planning.  The Saltash teams worked in out-of-hours phases, consulted with stakeholders on site safety, and made a strong commitment to controlling noise and dust output.

Across seminar rooms and student accommodation, this program of work included redecoration, mechanical and electrical installations, the fitting of new kitchens and bathrooms, and communal works.

Drawing on experience gained in similar high-profile, challenging environments in Central London – often with live occupation and use – Saltash achieved total stakeholder approval with this work, as well as on-time and on-budget delivery.
